I have to editorialize here: This is a clear violation
of the unwritten rule that we should not schedule two Masters meets, in
the same area, at the same time. There simply are not enough active competitors
to make both events financially or competitively successful. One area
might not have sufficient resources to properly staff multiple, high-quality
meets simultaneously. Poor scheduling causes a needless conflict.
The June 6 date has been reserved by the Pasadena Senior Games for over
a year. It has been traditionally on this first weekend of June for a
decade. Because it is part of a much larger, multi-sport event, this is
a highly organized production. The SCA Masters Championships changed their
pattern. We spent a month discussing the schedule of the SCA changing
weekends. One person was totally unable to see any other alternative to
stepping on another meet. The excuse is the cascade of early scheduling
of the World Championships, US National Championships and the National
Senior Games, forcing other championships to move back accordingly. Note
the Pacific Association, below, is holding their Masters Championships
a week later. That weekend or the Memorial Day weekend are clear alternatives.
As the person previously responsible for scheduling the SCA Meet and administering
this program, I made it a point to get all meet directors to become communicative
about scheduling, specifically so things like this conflict DO NOT ARISE.
That is obviously no longer a priority. These events, the competitors
and our sport in general suffer by that neglect. |
